RIMS launches new education initiatives with AFERM and DRI International

RIMS, the risk management society, has announced two new education initiatives aimed at expanding certification opportunities for federal risk management leaders and professionals with business continuity responsibilities.

The agreements are with the Association for Federal Enterprise Risk Management (AFERM) and The Disaster Recovery Institute International (DRI International).

Under the agreement with AFERM, RIMS will offer resources and prep courses to AFERM members and their stakeholders to help them earn the RIMS-Certified Risk Management Professional (RIMS-CRMP) and RIMS-CRMP-FED certifications.

The RIMS-CRMP is the only accredited risk management certification globally. Introduced in 2018 with AFERM’s support, the RIMS-CRMP-FED micro-credential is earned in addition to the RIMS-CRMP and signifies expertise in applying risk management strategies within complex federal agencies. All prep workshops will be conducted remotely by live RIMS instructors.

Meanwhile, through its agreement with DRI International, RIMS will offer a joint Exam Prep Bootcamp designed to help resilience professionals pursue both the RIMS-CRMP and DRI’s Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) certifications.

The four-day online bootcamp will feature live instruction and preparation for the RIMS-CRMP Prep Workshop and the DRI Qualifying Examination. Exam fees for both certifications are included as part of the program.

Gary A. LaBranche (pictured above), CEO of RIMS, said the partnerships align with RIMS’ mission to provide career-advancing opportunities that allow risk professionals to demonstrate their expertise and value.

“AFERM and DRI International, while different in scope, share that common goal and we look forward to working with both groups to advance risk management, keep businesses resilient, and to make the world a more sustainable and safer place,” he said.

Outside of expanding certification opportunities for risk professionals, RIMS outlined its 2025 agenda earlier this year, identifying several areas to support the advancement of the risk management profession.

These initiatives include greater transparency in third-party litigation funding, a national framework for data privacy and cybersecurity, the reauthorization of the NFIP, nonprofit tax reform, and investing in Tomorrow’s Workforce Act.
